Bernard V. Kearse, III, has practiced law for over 25 years and has concentrated in the estate planning and human resources/employee benefits areas. He graduated from Wofford College, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Kearse received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as an editor for the South Carolina Law Review. He received a masters in law in Estate Planning from the University of Miami. His experience includes designing and drafting wills and trust documents associated with estate planning and elder law, designing and drafting pension, deferred compensation, severance, self-funded medical and other benefit plans (including ESOPs), and representation of clients regarding formation of limited liability companies.
Mr. Kearse is a member of the Georgia, Illinois, South Carolina, Virginia and American Bar Associations. He is a former Supervisory Council member of the Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section (RPTE) of the American Bar Association (ABA). He is past Chairman of the ESOP Committee of the RPTE Section of the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Tax and Health Law Sections of the American Bar Association. Presently he is serving as Vice Chair of the Welfare Benefits Committee of RPTE and is also a member of the ABA’s Joint Committee on Employee Benefits (JCEB).
Mr. Kearse is also a Fellow of The American Bar Foundation (ABF), an organization limited to the top 1% of the attorneys in America. In 2006, Martindale-Hubbell listed The Kearse Law Firm, P.C. in its Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, a trusted register in the legal profession dating back almost a hundred years. This recognition includes only those select law practices that have earned the highest rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and have been designated by their colleagues as preeminent in their field.
He has previously practiced with both a national and a regional law firm and served as the Employee Benefits Counsel for a Fortune 200 company with approximately 30,000 employees worldwide.
Alaina Reukauf, Associate Attorney
Alaina Reukauf joined the Kearse Law Firm in January 2017. A native of Buffalo, NY, Alaina received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Richmond in 2012, where she majored in History and International Studies. Alaina moved to Atlanta to attend the Emory University School of Law, graduating in 2016. While in law school, Alaina was an active member with the Emory Law Moot Court Society and participated at the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition here in Atlanta. She also interned at a small environmental non-profit in the Pacific Northwest as well as a large corporate law firm in New York before pursuing her passion for estate planning.
Alaina is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers (GAWL), and the Atlanta Bar Association, Estate Planning and Probate Section. In her free time, she enjoys hiking in northern Georgia, spending time with her family, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.
